About Ravyn Rodriguez ~ Longboards Executive Chef
I was born and raised in Portola, California. After graduating from Portola High School, I attended the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. From there, I went on to apprentice at the Iron Door restaurant, under Peter Schmidt. I then went on to work for the Peppermill Corporation, where I was the Chef De Cuisine in the Steak House at their sister property, Western Village. After running the Steak House for eight years, I went to work at Charlie Palmer Steak House in the Grand Sierra Resort where I worked with David Holman, Charlie Palmer’s executive Chef. I was able to spend six months in the pastry department, really getting comfortable making desserts, preparing everything from scratch. After five years at Charlie Palmers, I went to work for Atlantis Casino. I started working in the Steak House and after a short time, I was promoted to sous chef and helped to reopen the newly remolded Toucan Charlie Buffet.
I will be returning this year for my 18th season at Longboards Bar & Grill. I started from the ground up as a dishwasher and have worked my way up to Chef. In the past 18 years at Longboards, I have been very fortunate to work with many wonderful people and have helped prepare a wide variety of cuisine for several hundred weddings and over a thousand banquets and groups. I live in Portola, Ca with my wife and 2 children. I have spent this past winter working in the restaurant at Sugarbowl Ski Resort. I am looking forward to returning to Longboards and working with my friends and the new members of our team.
I have been in the restaurant industry for 30 years. Born and raised in Plumas county, I started my career working at the Graeagle frostee in 1986. After working at a number of restaurants in the area over the years, my management career started in 1998. I then was able to create my dream and opened the Bonta Street Bistro in early 2005. In the winter of 2010, I sold the Bonta Street Bistro and soon after my husband, Dan, and I moved to Kona, Hawaii. My management career continued in Kona, at two popular eateries. First at Splasher’s Bar and Grill and then as an original opening manager of a new establishment, Sam Choy’s Kai Lanai in August of 2011, later becoming their General Manager. After over 5 years on the Island of Hawaii, my husband and I moved back to Plumas county in the summer of 2016. I am excited for this new venture at Longboards Bar & Grill in Graeagle and am looking forward to continuing my restaurant management career here in Plumas County, a place I call home.
